In this post I explain where my love of sports came from. Anyone say, Die Hard, and no, not the movie?
It started when I was a very little girl. My parents were big Denver Broncos fans. They started attending games soon after I was born in the 1960’s and held those season tickets for over 50 years. Now my brother is the keeper of those tickets. So, suffice it to say, I am a devoted Broncos fan even in Seahawks Country. 🙂 When NFL games were on the TV, there was no talking or activity allowed as it was the Church of Football.
My favorite players were and are the Wide Receivers; Upchurch, Little, McCaffery. I wanted to play pro football so badly when I was a kid, I dreamed about it. But being a girl, my chances at that time, were zilch. So, I played catch with my brother all the time and got really good at it. I could throw the Nerf Football the entire length of our long driveway. Both at school and at home I played basketball, softball, baseball, roller skates, tetherball, jacks, and soccer with my brother. And, even though we fought and hated each other for a long time, we still managed to do a lot of activities together during that time period. Then one day, when we were both going to Jr. High at the same time, we decided we didn’t need to always be fighting anymore and became allies. He is still one of my most favorite people on the planet.
The two of us fought over one Home Game a season when we played the Oakland Raiders. We loved to hate them. Lol. It got to the point we had to trade off every year to keep it fair.Â
I devotedly wore my orange and blue to school even if they lost their game the day before. After their first Super Bowl loss, I was the only kid in school wearing Broncos gear the next day. One of my teachers said I was true fan. Heck, yeah, I said.Â
In Junior High I had the third best shot put throw as an 8th grader. I ran cross country and played soccer in High School. I continued with Cross Country into college, choosing the dynastic Adams State. I made the B team and got to travel for meets. I helped coach college as an adult and even though the kids I worked with were amazing people, I found I did not enjoy that as much as being the athlete.
I had a boss who called me a Jock, but I never considered myself as such and thought that was a funny word to describe me. I like athletics and feel very fortunate that I have the aptitude, balance, and decent skills to enjoy any sport I try. Now I enjoy throwing the frisbee, walking, and playing with my dogs who are exhausting. 🙂
So with a lifetime of enjoying the Olympics, Track and Field and pro sports it was very natural to me to create my Team Colors collection. I had school mascots in mind, what the band would wear, cheerleaders, and fans could purchase a design or two, or three and make their own apparel, bags, or scarves to cheer on their alma mater.
You can shop those designs here. These are my Best Sellers!Â
